More Web 2.0

I really have not fallen off the face of the earth. I am sure you can imagine how easily distracted I am by my son's beautiful smile. More photos will be on the way soon. If I had at least taken the time to finish this post about some new Web 2.0 tools I am using, you would have seen that I am alive, well, and loving life as a father.
Blogs are great, but they can be a lot of work. And they're really built to handle longer-form text posts. Tumblelogs, on the other hand, let you easily and quickly post and share anything you find or create. ( from the Tumblr FAQ )
That is why I have started a tumblelog using Tumblr. Take a look at All Tumbling Things Phil. Stream of consciousness comes to mind as a good description for it. I have plugged all sorts of other information sources into it, so when I use some of those other tools, my tumblelog gets automatically updated.

Speaking of tools, Twitter seems to be all the rage now. I had heard about it early this year, but after hearing more about it on net@nite episode 15, I took the plunge. The founder of Blogger and Odeo decided to break new ground again and develop this popular service sometime last year. It seems to have caught on. Better writers than me have more interesting things to say about Twitter, but I think the magic is in its embrace of short text messaging. Time has an article, Why Everyone's Talking about Twitter, that tries to capture some of the buzz. I just like being able to tell everyone what I am doing and choosing who I want to follow in the same way. Beware the addiction though. Especially with something like Twittervision... awesome!

On a completely different note, Geni posted some statistics on the top 100 family trees. Our family's tree is up to 194 people at last count. Come on relatives! Let's keep adding family members so we can make it into the next top 100! And for the rest of you out there, are you sure we are not related? Perhaps we can come to a consensus so that my family tree can grow! Haha!

Parenting Update

It has been a month since my last post for a reason that I am sure is easy to understand. While Jean and I are certainly enjoying parenthood, we are also having a tough time doing anything else. In what I am sure is surprising to no one, Jean and I are figuring out exactly how much work it takes to manage a newborn.

Amount of work notwithstanding, Michael is incredible. Jean and I both are amazed at the beauty of his wide eyes, fuzzy hair, long fingers, and, believe or not, very loud cries. Yes, you read that correctly, we are both going insane. Ha! Just kidding. Everything about our son is wonderful.

This photo is from our first visit to the pediatrician's office. Last weekend I was able to go through some of the many photos I have taken. They are all posted on my Flickr site. I will continue to try to sort through and post more, so please continue to check. I will undoubtedly get a chance to upload more photos before I blog about them, so if you are so inclined, check Flickr first.
